'The Elephant herd was silhouetted against the evening sky, moving in and out of the hanging dust kicked up by the thousand Buffalo that had just passed. This epitomised the experience that is the Chobe River'.
The Elephant herds of Chobe are legendary, with hundreds to be seen at any one time on the floodplains of the river during the dry season. A mobile safari in Chobe allows for the best experience of this phenomenon as it allows for maximum time on game drives without having to rush back to a lodge or the park gate. The campsites are also ideally located in the park to gain the most benefit.
Besides the opportunity to experience these great herds a mobile safari also allows for freedom of time when on a cruise on the river.
Aside from the great herds that concentrate on the river in the dry season the Chobe River region has a healthy predator population. Not to mention the pods of hippo wallowing along the banks at respectable intervals from each other. And then there are the baboons.
The wide floodplains allow for great game viewing and cruises on the river make for unique views of crocodiles - for which you need to keep your eyes peeled. You will be amazed how a creature so large, lying out in the open on the grassy banks, can be completely missed at first glance. There is a large variety of bird species, especially during the rains when the migrant birds from up north begin arriving.
