The Classic Honeymoon Safari Experience

This couples holiday package from the Okavango Delta to Chobe starts in the Delta wetlands. You can explore the beautiful waterways of the Okavango Delta in a mokoro or traditional canoe. You stay in one of the most romantic bush camps on a secluded island.

Your poler / guide will navigate the reed-fringed channels while you experience this relaxing form of game viewing on your African honeymoon. A number of wildlife species have adapted to the environment including the delicate Sitatunga antelope.

From the serenity of the Okavango, your Honeymoon Safari moves on to take in the plentiful plains game of Savute and huge herds of Elephant in the Chobe. This African romance allows you to experience superb wildlife viewing in Botswana as you start your new life together. Enjoy candlelit dinners under the stars and the romance of the remote African wilderness.

Day 1: Johannesburg – Maun – Okavango Delta

Mokoro on Okavango. After arriving in Maun from Johannesburg you will be transferred by light aircraft to the Okavango Delta. Your bush camp is situated on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. The region is very scenic with picturesque channels and lagoons.

You will enjoy a light lunch followed by time to settle in. You may set off in a traditional boat called a mokoro to explore the channels and islands nearby. This will give you the chance to see some of the wildlife including Red Lechwe and Hippos.

You’ll return to the bush camp to enjoy romantic sundowners on the main deck before a delicious African inspired dinner. You can retire to your comfortable tented suite and go to sleep surrounded by the peace and tranquillity of the Delta night.

Day 2: Okavango Delta

Bush walks with experienced guide. In the morning you’ll set off on exciting game viewing activities. You may decide on a guided walk on the nearby islands to try and track some animals such as Giraffe and Elephant. All game-viewing activities are conducted by experienced professional guides who will teach you about the unique ecology of the region.

These walks provide wonderful bird-watching opportunities as the Okavango is a sanctuary for many different species such as Slaty’s Egrets, African Jacanas and the iconic African Fish Eagles or even rare species such as Pel’s Fishing Owls.

You could also head out in a motor boat and explore further into the Delta through the tranquil channels, spotting animals such as Elephant and Hippo. Alternately, try your hand at fishing for the fierce Tiger Fish on a eco-friendly catch and release basis.

Day 3: Okavango – Savute

Pool deck with refreshments.Today you will catch a light aircraft flight from the Okavango Delta to the Savute airstrip. The next 2 nights are spent in the Savute region. This is an interesting area, as the Savuti River only flows periodically. In recent years it has flooded consistently, and the region has become very wet. The region is known for the number of Elephant that move through it in the dry season.

After a light lunch you will have time to settle into the safari lodge and spend some quality time together before heading off on an afternoon game drive in an open 4x4 vehicle. The area is known to have the second largest Zebra migration in the world.

Day 4: Savute

Lion on game drive. You’ll set off on an early morning game drive that will take in the beautiful Savute Marsh which attracts a diverse number of different species such as Impala, Wildebeest and Zebra, as well as the attendant Predators such as Lion and Hyena.

You will return to the safari lodge for a brunch or late lunch before having a siesta. In the afternoon you can enjoy another game drive or a visit the ancient San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills which depict the San’s life and spiritual beliefs.

Day 5: Savute – Kasane

Chobe river. After your early morning game drive and breakfast you will fly-in to Kasane before catching a road transfer to a game lodge in the Chobe National Park. Here you will stay in a classic safari lodge on the Chobe River. A wildlife spectacle that’s not to be missed is thousands of Elephant which come down to drink in the dry winter months. Once you have settled in you will set off to explore the region on a game drive.

Return to the game lodge and enjoy a delicious dinner followed by a spot of star gazing if the weather permits. The clear night skies and lack of light allow you to gaze in wonder at the beauty of the stars in the Milky Way.

Day 6: Chobe National Park

Beautiful setting.Set off on morning game drives to see vast herds of Buffalo and Zebra which come down to drink, closely shadowed by predators such as Lion and Hyena. In the afternoon you can enjoy a romantic river cruise on the Chobe River, which is conducted in small, shallow craft piloted by expert boatmen. There is something magical about drifting down the river while enjoying a refreshing drink and watching the magnificent sunset. You will see many Hippo and Crocodile while on your cruise.

Day 7: Chobe National Park – Kasane – Johannesburg

Delicious cuisine.Your wonderful African honeymoon draws to a close. After one last early morning game drive and a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to Kasane for your scheduled flight back to Johannesburg.
