Day 1: Abu Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

On arrival at Maun airport you will be met by the representative for your Elephant Back Safari, and transferred to a light aircraft for your 30-minute flight over the Okavango Delta to Abu Camp. After lunch you will have a couple of hours free to orientate yourselves and relax before tea, then you will be introduced to the Elephants. There follows a short ride, returning to the camp in time for sundowners on the deck, followed by dinner, which will be served, on the main deck. After dinner you can enjoy drinks around the fire.

Days 2 & 3: Abu Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

These days start with a morning Elephant ride starting any time from 7.30 am. This is usually the preferred morning activity. Sometimes you'll return to Abu in time for lunch, otherwise you'll ride out to a picnic lunch spot on one of the islands for a late brunch followed by a siesta under the shade of tall palm trees.

The Elephants are free to browse the palm islands before taking everyone back to camp on a relaxing late afternoon ride. Or a 4X4 vehicle will be made available for an afternoon game drive, with mokoros available when there is water and the opportunity to head further into the concession.

In the evening sundowners may be served on the main deck, or perhaps you will drive out to the magnificent Baobab trees where a beautifully laid table awaits, and your safari chef has conjured up a magnificent bush dinner under the stars. You can also go on night drives with a spotlight on the Elephant Back Safari.

Day 4: Abu Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Dependant on your onward flight arrangements from Maun, you can enjoy a last outing with the Elephants on your Elephant Back Safari before flying out from Abu Camp.

    More About Elephant Back Safaris

Elephant Back Safaris are the highlight of any visit to the Abu Camp. The camp guarantees you thrilling days of fun, dreamlike adventure and discovery. This is indeed the ultimate African safari experience. The primary focus at Abu Camp is undoubtedly the elephants, and you enjoy the unique opportunity of viewing Africa's wildlife from the backs of these fascinating and mighty mammals.

Elephants are a familiar feature to Africa's various wild species and they can walk with ease both in sand and in the water, which makes them the perfect 4x4s for the environment Besides, they offer you a rare chance to enjoy game-viewing from very close quarters.

Walking beside these gigantic animals, you learn all their habits from Abus guides and resident researchers. Youngsters cavort and roll in the water, wander off, and come charging back The adults amble quietly on, browsing, snapping off the odd branch to munch on as they go. Their expressive long-lashed eyes reveal patience, mischief and pleasure. These are hedonistic animals.

You can also opt for game-drives in specially adapted open 4x4 safari vehicles, which cover more ground and suitable for game viewing of Africa's nocturnal species. Or, you can glide through the Okavango Delta's channels and floodplains in a 'mokoro' (dugout canoe) for a different view of this charming environment. Guided walks and bird-watching complete your titillating Delta experience.

At the end of your day's adventure, you can look forward to a mouthwatering and exquisite dinner prepared by the Abu Camp's expert safari chef. This imported chef caters for all your tastes and dietary demands. The dining area is set on layered teak decking that weaves its way around African Ebony and Sycamore Fig trees You can enjoy sundowners in the shade of these dignified and ancient trees with plentiful cocktails on ice
