On arrival in Maun you will be met and taken to your light aircraft for the approximately 25 minute flight to the Shinde Private concession. During the flight you can see the desert become delta and the myriad island that make up this fascinating wilderness. Upon arrival you will be met by your guides and transferred in a 4x4 safari vehicle to camp. Here you will have lunch and be briefed on the safari ahead.

    Days 2 & 3: Footsteps Camp – Okavango Delta

For the next two days there will be an early start, before sunrise, with tea and coffee around the fire, and after a light breakfast it is time to head out to explore what secrets the African bush will reveal to us.

You will explore the area on foot, examining tracks left by overnight visitors, on makoros where you may even catch some fish for cooking over an open fire or you may learn the basic priciples of driving in wilderness areas. You may even learn some bush mechanics such as changing a tyre in thick sand.

There is a chance to see and learn about big game such as lion, elephants, buffalo, cheetah, wildebeest and impala. The guides have in-depth knowledge of the wildlife in the region and will share this with you. There will even be an opportunity to learn about the rules and skills involved in handling a rifle and may have the opportunity to shoot with a pellet gun on the bush range.

Time will be spent in camp and the adults have a chance to siesta whilst the young cubs are watched over by their guides, recording observations in our Bush Journals, learning some traditional bush skills such as basket weaving and even some bush cooking over an open fire.

    Day 4: Okavango / Kalahari

Today you will bid farewell to the staff at footsteps and catch a light aircraft for a flight into the heart of the Kalahari Desert where you will be met by the guides of Edo’s Camp and transferred by road to the game ranch.

Edo's Camp is an 8 bedded camp situated in a private game reserve over 120 000ha in size. The camp is set around a large rocky pan that is part of an ancient river system, in the past this chain of pans and springs were important watering points on the trekking route.

The luxury tents are on raised decks looking out across a large pan – as does the main dining and lounge area. This afternoon you can relax in camp and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as the game come down to drink; uninterrupted by predators the pan can be host to hundreds of kudu, impala, springbok and many more varieties of wildlife. Dinner is prepared for you and enjoyed together as a family, this evening you can test your memory from the lessons in the Delta and early to bed for an exciting day ahead.

    Days 5 & 6: Edo’s Camp – Kalahari

Over the next two days you and your family will take part in a variety of activities of which a highlight is the experience of meeting with one of the world's oldest cultures - the San Bushmen.

There is a village situated on the reserve, where they live a life of modernity and ancient tradition. Although they do not wear traditional clothing they do carry out many old traditions including gathering food from the land. You may join the women and children as they go out in the morning to collect a range of medicinal and edible plant life.

One of the big adventures of your stay will be to join the guides tracking rhino. The bushmen locate fresh tracks and you will be off on foot through the bush and scrub following their calls and hand signals.

Birding walks and game drives can be taken in the area and a variety of desert species can be seen including mongeese, meerkats, squirrels, brown hyena, aardvark and different desert antelope.

Another special aspect of your time at Edo's Camp is an opportunity to visit the local orphanage, located on the property and sponsored by the owners of Edo's Camp and their guests (including you). You are welcome to bring books or other items from home to share with the children.
