Driving over rough terrain and experiencing the best of African wildlife is what this self-drive adventure is about – and at the end of each day the pampering of the luxury lodges allows you to unwind and recall the experiences of the day.

Day 1: Johannesburg – Kasane – Chobe

Today you will fly from Johannesburg to Kasane where you will pick up your hire car before heading to your game lodge in the Chobe National Park. Experience the Chobe National Park on a 4x4 game drive in the afternoon. The Chobe National Park is famous as the gathering site of the world’s largest Elephant population along the river. These floodplains are also the only place in Botswana where you can see the Puku antelope.

Day 2: Chobe National Park

You will explore the wildlife haven of the Chobe River – a place that is renowned to have the greatest concentration of Elephants in Africa. There will be the opportunity for an optional boat cruise to view game from the water, providing a unique perspective for your safari tour.

Days 3 & 4: Savute

From the Chobe River you will head south into the Savute region of the Chobe National Park where you will spend 2 nights. The days are spent exploring this fascinating region on drives to see how the arrival of the floodwaters affects wildlife movements and habits. Predators abound and the flooded Savuti Channel is a lifeline for wildlife during the dry season.

Days 5 & 6: Moremi

Today is an early start as you head south west towards the Xaxanaxa area of the Moremi Game Reserve, thought by many to be the most beautiful game park in Africa. Moremi is a place of lush floodplains, riverine forests and woodland – and is in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Whilst here you can explore the area by car, boat or on foot to experience what makes Moremi so famous.

Day 7: Moremi – Maun

In the morning you will enjoy one final game drive in the early morning before you leave the Moremi Game Reserve and head south to Maun for your last overnight at Botswana. Your drive will take you through some wonderful areas of Mopane woodland where you might see a pack of Wild Dogs or a rare Sable Antelope. You will also pass regions of Acacia savannah that are good p-laces to look out for Giraffe.

Day 8: Maun – Johannesburg

You will have time for a morning optional activity before drop-off the vehicle at the Maun Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.

Northern Parks 4x4 classic self-drive safari

This 8 day classic self-drive holiday is calculated for 2 guests and includes; flights ex/to Johannesburg with arrival in Kasane on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays per schedule flight; pick-up of a 4x4 car rental at Kasane Airport and drop-off at Maun Airport; shared en-suite accommodation.

The Rates are based on the high season and may vary depending on the season and daily currency exchange rate. This self-drive package can also be combined with a fly-in Okavango Delta or a fly-in Kalahari or Makgadikgadi Pans package. This self-drive can be also done from Maun to Kasane on a daily basis.
