  • How do I get to Botswana?

    By Plane:

    The main airport of Botswana is the Sir Seretse Khama in Gaborone. Most flights arriving in Botswana are from Johannesburg in South Africa. Maun Airport in Maun can also be reached via Johannesburg or Gaborone.


    By Car:

    There are 15 entry points into Botswana by road. The major entry point is in the south at Gaborone for access from Johannesburg. Other main access points are from Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Access from Harare is near Francistown. All roads to Botswana are good, and the primary roads of the country are paved and well maintained.

    By Bus:

    Intercape bus service runs daily trips from Johannesburg to Gaborone, which take approximately 6 hours. There is also a bus from Windhoek in Namibia via the Caprivi Strip, dropping you off in the Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, as well as a bus service from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.


    How do I get around Botswana?

    It is relatively easy to get around in Botswana with its combination of coaches, mini busses and trains. If you decide to take a bus, remember to arrive early as the bus fills up quick and you may have to wait hours for an available seat. Bring lots of water with as the most buses are not air conditioned. Private charters are also available and are often the only way of reaching the safari camps around Botswana.
